Looking Ahead to 2024: Men's Lacrosse Goalies

The men's lacrosse goalie unit has one person returning from 2023 ( junior Dylan Wilbur ) along with a freshman (Thomas Castiglia).  Dylan Wilbur is all over the career records top fives and has opportunities in the upcoming season to break a couple career records.  1. He's appeared in 31 games in his career and the program record is 42. I believe that there are 14 games in the regular season, so he can be the first men's goalie with 45 appearances.  2. He's been the starting goalie in 27 of his appearances, and he needs eight starts to reset the career record.     3. He needs seventeen saves to break the career record and he's nineteen away from being the first men's goalie with 400 saves.

Looking Ahead to 2024: Women's Lacrosse Goalies

The women's lacrosse team will be returning two goalies on the roster: junior Abbie Gallagher and sophomore McKenna Graf .  In addition, freshman Alyssa Rosenfeld from Saint Augustine, Florida is the newcomer goalie.  Gallagher has appeared in 20 games with six starts totaling 483 minutes, although she was backing up Rachel Robb and Maddy Meyers during her underclassman seasons (Robb and Meyers have two of the top three career spots in games played, starts and minutes played).   Graf appeared nine times during her freshman season with one start.

Senior Catarina Marcko Ferreira tallied her sixty-second competitive dual match appearance, moving into a tie for third since 2015-16 with alumnus Elin Rundcrantz. Only Carol Quevedo and Oriana Labaqui have more. Marcko Ferreira, in addition, has tallied her seventy-second appearance overall (62 dual matches, 2 tournaments and 8 cross-country meets), moving her into second by herself in terms of Mountain Lion multi-sport appearances.  Junior Meghna Mallath notched her forty-fourth competitive dual match, moving from a tie for sixth (with Joselyne Chapui) into sixth by herself since 2015-16. She's also one away from fifty total appearances, as the YHC Invite a few days ago was the fifth fall tournament of her career.  Sophomores Emily Bush and Simone Mercier continue their climb towards the top ten as they each notched their twenty-fourth competitive dual match (tenth right now is Jing Dong with twenty-eight competitive dual matches). Each of them have recorded a total of tw...

New Scoring Leader

With two goals on Saturday against Erskine, Alexis Scarpinato now has twenty-two goals in her career, moving into first place in the team's NCAA-era history (she was already one of just three in a decade, along with Lucero Robayo and Baylee Roach- and first since 2018- with twenty goals).  Her two assists in the game gave her a six-point outing and fifty for her career. She currently sits in second place with 51 points.

Women's Soccer v. Erskine (Oct. 7)

Junior defender Cassidy Campbell now has forty-eight appearances, tying alumnus Karly Zacharias for tenth all-time. Ninth on the list is Allison Cox with forty-nine.  Junior goalkeeper McKenna Peaster now has twenty-six goalie appearances. Third on the list is alumnus Nicole Medeiros with twenty-nine while Taylor Erickson and Arielle Charles are tied for second as they each have thirty.  Freshman defender Carol Anne Giannamore and sophomore defender Taylor Poland recorded their first appearances of 2023. It was Poland's third appearance in soccer and fourth overall (she also has one cross country meet).  Freshman goalkeeper Samantha Thomsson , in her first appearance, recorded the lone save in six minutes.  Sophomore defender Emily Brenneman (30 minutes) appeared in her third game of the season and eighteenth of her career. Along with her lone cross country meet, she has nineteen total appearances for the Mountain Lions.

Women's Soccer Goalie Milestones

Junior McKenna Peaster played the full ninety minutes at Converse on Tuesday, picking up seven saves in what was her twenty-fifth appearance, extending her fourth-best mark. Her fifth shutout a couple games ago tied Kelsey Cunningham for second, and the 3-2 win over Converse was the tenth of her career. Peaster joins the 10-win club to tie Arielle Charles for second in that category as well.

Women's Tennis @ the YHC Invite

Freshman Holly Ashford picked up two singles wins at the YHC Invite, which marks her first Mountain Lion appearance.  Fellow freshmen Luciana Bejarano and Viviana Gomez have appeared in both competitions this year after competing at the ITA Regionals and the YHC Invite.  Senior Catarina Marcko Ferreira made her second fall tournament appearance after competing at the UNG Invite back in October. Combined with her 61 dual matches and 8 appearances in cross country, she's now appeared 71 times in her career, tying Jessica Beckner for the second-most appearances by a multi-sport athlete at Young Harris.   It was the fourth fall tournament each for sophomores Emily Bush and Simone Mercier - both of them now have 27 competitive appearances (23 dual matches). Junior Meghna Mallath marked her fifth recorded fall tournament with a singles victory. She currently stands at 48 appearances as she's competed in 43 dual matches.

Triple-Digit Saves

Goalie McKenna Peaster only managed one save during the Saturday (Sep. 30) contest against Lees-McRae, but it was the 100th of her career, extending her fifth-best mark in the team's NCAA-era history. Fourth on the list is Nicole Medeiros with 161.  With the full game against LMC, Peaster has now appeared in 24 games between the posts, extending her fourth-best mark (Medeiros' 29 games is currently third).
