Men's Soccer Top Ten Update: Career Goalie Games

7th Place: Anton Viden (12)  8th Place: Sebastien Thomsson (7) 9th Place: Sophomore Stathis Paplomatos /Christian Kjellsby (6)

Soccer Thursday: Quick Hits

Men: 5-0 L v. Limestone Sophomore goalie Stathis Paplomatos was the star of the match for the Mountain Lions, as his five saves prevented it from being more of a blowout. He now has 18 saves, which moves him into eighth in the program's NCAA-era history, surpassing Sebastien Thomsson.  Women: 4-2 W @ Shorter Sophomore midfielder Alexis Scarpinato , who pounded the net with six shots on goal, netted the thirteenth goal of her career in the second half- this ties her with alumnus Amber Matthews for fifth in the program's NCAA-era history. Alumnus Haley Holderfield, with fifteen goals, is currently fourth.

Men's Cross Country Career Meets List- Second Update

Alumnus Harrison Myers competed for the team from 2011 to 2014 and ran in twenty-seven meets over four seasons, which is the new second-best mark. Jeremy Webb's twenty-six appearances drops to third and Cody Decker's twenty-three meets drops to fourth.

Men's Cross Country Career Meets List- First Update

We have a new third-place mark.  Alumnus Cody Decker only competed in three seasons, from 2012 to 2014, but he certainly left his mark. Two eight-meet seasons helped him to 23 total, which at the moment is the new third-place tally. Matthew Biwott, with 22, drops down to fourth place.

The start of a career meets list for men's cross country

After drafting out updated athlete bios for men's cross country, I have a temporary top three for the most cross country meets on the men's side.  The top spot is currently held by Raul Ramirez, who competed in twenty-eight meets between 2013 and 2016. The current second spot is held by Jeremy Webb who ran in twenty-six meets, also between 2013 and 2016.  And currently in third is Matthew Biwott, who set several milestones in 2015 as the first individual national qualifier and conference champion in program history. He ran in twenty-two meets between 2014 and 2016, picking up fifteen top-10 finishes.

Active Multi-Sport Athletes at Young Harris

The Mountain Lions have seen a number of multi-sport athletes over the years, among them: Jessica Beckner in Basketball and Volleyball Grace Isakson in Basketball and Cross Country Catarina Marcko Ferreira in Tennis and Cross Country Haylie Shope in Basketball and Softball Sam Van Ness in Tennis and Soccer It's unknown at this point if Marcko Ferreira, who was a junior last year, will return to the tennis team but there are two multi-sport athletes competing for soccer this year: sophomore defenders Taylor Poland and Emily Brennaman . Both of them have one cross country meet each, while Brennaman has appeared in fifteen soccer games with Poland logging two.

Mountain Lion Appearance Records by Sport

Basketball : CJ Wilson holds the men's record with 110; Jada Williams and Shereese Williams hold the top spot on the women's side with 103 appearances.   Softball : The 244 appearances of Jill Torres (which is also the current appearances record across all sports).  Women's Cross Country : At the moment, it's Nicole Smith and her thirty meets.  Women's Golf : At the moment, it's the 35-tournament career of Christie Blaurock .   Women's Lacrosse : Erika Cross with 74 games.

Tournaments entering 2023-24: Women's Golf

Connor Johnson had an impressive opening two seasons for Young Harris, competing in all sixteen tournaments over that span. Lucy Weigert has an opportunity to equal that mark as she concluded her freshman season by also competing in all eight contests. Alanis Santiago Maldonado has appeared in seven tournaments at the conclusion of her freshman season.  Sarah Comer concluded her Young Harris career at the Peach Belt Championships in April, which was her twelfth tournament.

Spots on the Top Ten: Men's Tennis

*Note: this only covers competitive dual match appearances from the spring 2016 season onwards.  Janis Auslands was one of two honored in Senior Day celebrations in April and ends his career tied for ninth since 2016 having appeared in 37 competitive dual matches- tied with alumnus Kash Reddiyar. Pieke Bouman is currently tenth as he's competed in 35 dual matches.  Eric DelValle and Rodrigo Mendoza are currently fourth and fifth, respectively. DelValle has competed in 49 dual matches with Mendoza right behind him with 47.  Chimo Minguez Ribera , who has 31 competitive dual matches under his belt, is currently just outside of the top ten.

Spots on the Top Ten: Women's Tennis

*Note: this is only counting competitive dual match appearances since the 2016 spring season. Although the 2023-24 roster and schedule isn't yet posted, several members of the 2022-23 roster have spots on the current top ten- and we can assume that they'll all come back because there was no Senior Day match during the previous season. Catarina Marcko Ferreira , who was a junior last season, is currently tied for fourth, along with alumnus Ana Rodriguez, with 61 competitive dual match appearances. Only Elin Rundcrantz, Carol Quevedo and Oriana Labaqui have more.  With 43 competitive dual match appearances each, Meghna Mallath and Joselyne Chapui are tied for sixth-most since the 2016 spring season. Classmate Louise Ratiu is in seventh with 41 appearances.  Just outside the top ten is Yureni Gomez with 26 competitive dual matches. The tenth spot is currently held by alumnus Juli Boerr, who appeared in 27 matches over her career.

Men's Cross Country: Appearances entering 2023

The previous blog posts have been about either soccer or volleyball, so let's talk a bit about the men's cross country team, which will have seven returning harriers for the upcoming season.  Junior Kai Vigardt has appeared in 13 meets over his career and can reach the 15-meet milestone at the Queen City Invitational on September 15th.  Juniors  Hayden Durrett and Jack Rush  have both appeared in 12 meets in their careers and can reach the 15-meet milestone at the NCAA Southeast Regional Preview on September 30th.  Junior Liam King has appeared in 11 meets over two seasons and can reach the 15-meet milestone at the UAH Invitational on October 7th.  Junior Dylan DiCicco and sophomores Noah Mason and  Matthew Honeycutt  have each appeared in 6 meets and can reach the 10-meet milestone at the UAH Invite.

What to look for this year: men's and women's soccer

Men's Soccer Sophomore goalkeeper Stathis Paplomatos has five games in goal under his belt, which is currently tenth all-time. However, Anton Viden, who last played in 2017, is in seventh with 12 appearances and Henrik Timgren's 20 appearances is fifth-most.  If Paplomatos appears in all seventeen games, he will have the new fifth-best mark with 22 appearances in goal.  There's also the fact that Paplomatos can move up the career wins list- he's currently tenth with two wins with Timgren's eight wins currently sixth all-time.  Women's Soccer I mentioned in a previous post that junior goalie McKenna Peaster can move up the goalie appearances list, but she can also move up the career wins list- this is how things currently stand: 1st Place: Pien Van Kampen/Nicole Medeiros (15) 2nd Place: Arielle Charles (10) 3rd Place: Taylor Erickson/Kelsey Cunningham (9) 4th Place: McKenna Peaster (6) 5th Place: Kylie Mason (3)

Women's Soccer: Career Points List

I mentioned in a previous post that sophomore midfielder  Alexis Scarpinato is currently seventh all-time with 12 goals- I say currently because we don't yet have stats for anything prior to 2010. She also has three assists, which gives her 27 points for her career- the new seventh-best mark, surpassing the 26 points each from alumni Aimee Durn and Carly Rich. Sixth place is currently held by alumnus Amber Matthews, who last played in 2016 and has 31 points off 13 goals and 5 assists.  Fifth place, meanwhile, is held by alumnus Haley Holderfield, who tallied 36 points on 15 goals and 6 assists.

Women's Soccer 2023 Preview: Games Played entering the year

A previous post mentioned that McKenna Peaster- the lone returner at goalkeeper- has appeared 15 times in goal for the Mountain Lions. What that post didn't mention, however, is that she'll be the first goalie since 2015 and third since 2011 to log thirty appearances if she appears in 15 of the upcoming 18 regular-season games; and she'll move into second in the program's NCAA-era for goalie appearances if she appears in 16 of the 18 regular-season games. Now, let's take a look at the other returning members of the roster.  Sophomore defender Emma Brennaman : Started thirteen of fifteen games played; logged 1,044 minutes.  Junior defender Cassidy Campbell : 2,448 minutes across 36 games with 27 starts.  Sophomore midfielder Maya Cramer : 758 minutes across fourteen games with three starts; added a goal.  Sophomore defender Emma Hodges : five games played.  Junior defender Morgan Kasel : Starts in all 36 appearances; two assists; logged 3,220 minutes over three s...
