Bold Prediction #1: Men's Lacrosse Caused Turnovers

Prediction: Ben Soenen will be the first in Young Harris lacrosse history (alumnus Rachel Lepine holds the women's record with 78) to cause 100 turnovers.  Currently with 83- which extends his team record- the sophomore defender needs just seventeen to reach triple digits and he's recorded 37 (second-best in a season) and 46 (season record) in his first two seasons. 

Future New Career-Record Holder?

Men's lacrosse goalie Dylan Wilbur tallied eleven saves in the season finale against Alabama-Huntsville. With only two seasons under his belt, the sophomore from Dallas, Georgia has an opportunity to break three team records: games played, starts and saves. GAMES PLAYED The UAH game was the thirty-first of his career, moving him from a tie for third with Ryan Pickowitz to third by himself. He needs twelve games to move past Sean Dever, who appeared 42 times in goal.  STARTS The UAH matchup was the twenty-seventh start of his career, extending his hold on second all-time. Alumnus Mason King, who played from 2016 to 2019, holds top spot having started 34 games (his 40 appearances is in second place). SAVES Wilbur's eleven saves against the Chargers to wrap up the season gave him 381 for his career, sixteen shy of King's current career record.  He'll tie the men's career record with sixteen saves. Men's Soccer Updates

Both midfielder Mikkel Goeling and defender Quinn Thompson , who will be juniors in the 2023 season, have moved up various career lists. With nine goals in 2022, Goeling now sits at 23 for his career, which is the new eighth-best mark in the program's NCAA-era, and his 56 points is now ninth-best. Thompson assisted three goals in 2022 to give him 17 helpers for his career, which is now part of a four-way tie for seventh with Val Feeney, Macauley King and Seba Andreassen. 

Men's Lacrosse: Positional Career Marks

Where are current men's lax roster members career-wise heading into their postseason opener on Friday? Ground Balls Junior faceoff specialist/midfielder Jacob Haas is second in team history with 196 while sophomore defender Ben Soenen is in seventh with 112 and fellow sophomore defender Kieran Isbister sits eighth with 96.  Caused Turnovers Soenen extended his own school record, becoming the first in team history to tally eighty in a career. Isbister's 59 is third-best while junior defender Jacob Miller , with 17, is eleventh.  Points Sophomore attackman Tommy Chriszt is currently ninth with 80 (37g, 43a) while junior attackman Wyatt Peek is fifteenth with 57 (37g, 20a). Assists Chriszt's 43 helpers is fifth all-time while Peek, with 20, is tied for thirteenth.  Goals Sophomore attackman Gunnar Fagerstrom is thirteenth with 41 with Peek and Chriszt currently tied for fourteenth with 37.

Women's Lacrosse 2023 Wrap-Up: Season Totals

Junior midfielder Ella Hancock tallied sixty points on the season by way of 38 goals and 22 assists, which is tied for the tenth-best single-season mark in program history along with Sarah Bialecki (29 goals and 31 assists in 2017) and Taylor Greenberg (52 goals and 8 assists in 2022). It also improves on her 57-point season from last year, when she tallied 28 goals and 29 assists.  Hancock and classmate attacker Ruthie Mandell 's assists totals this season also moved into the top fifteen, as Hancock's 22 assists is tied for eleventh-most in a season with Kendra Parenteau in 2016 (and again in 2017) and Mandell's 21 assists is technically fourteenth best. *Mandell's single-season assist numbers continue to improve as her 21 this year is the first 20-assist season of her Mountain Lion career after 10 last season and five in 2021.   Junior midfielder Kinsley Purser is in the top ten for ground balls in a season with 41 this year, which is the new seventh-place mark, and...

5th: Logan Worley (145) 6th: Senior Ethan Underwood (143) 7th: Jackson Jones (142)  *Underwood moved past Jones on the NCAA-era list playing thirty-seven fewer games to date (Underwood has 167 after Friday's game while Jones finished his career with 204) Logan Worley, who's next on the list, appeared in 182 games. 

News and Notes from Tuesday, April 18th

The women's tennis team fell 4-3 against Augusta to conclude their regular season but there were several milestones in terms of competitive dual match appearances, including sophomore Yureni Gomez tallying her twenty-fifth and classmate Louise Ratiu notching her fortieth. Junior Catarina Marcko Ferreira , however, tallied her sixtieth competitive dual match appearance, moving past alumni Maria Puerta and Laura Sanchez into the fifth-best spot since 2015-16. Only Ana Rodriguez, Elin Rundcrantz, Carol Quevedo and Oriana Labaqui have competed in more dual matches over that time frame.  Softball (3-1 W v. Record Chasers

Baseball Senior second baseman Ethan Underwood continues his climb up the program record books. His 141 runs scored is one shy of Jackson Jones' sixth-best total, his 157 hits is the new eleventh-best mark and his 84 walks is three shy of surpassing Dom Wyshinski for fourth all-time.  Classmate outfielder Rome Wallace now stands at 122 RBI after the hugely successful weekend series against South Carolina-Beaufort, which is the new sixth-best mark. Adam Moore's 137 rounds out the top five.  Women's Tennis Junior Catarina Marcko Ferreira has a momentous opportunity in the final two matches of the regular season- she has competed in 58 dual matches in her career and can reach the 60 mark if she appears against both Columbus State and Augusta. 3rd: Sarah Bialecki (64) 4th: Junior Kinsley Purser (60) 5th: Anna Luckie (59)  *Kinsley is the first YHC women's lacrosse player with at least 60 career assists since Bialecki in 2017 and her 1.36 assists per game is currently fourth-best, behind only Hayley Bartlett, Erika Cross and Bialecki.  

News and Notes from the First Nine Days of April

Baseball  Senior second baseman Ethan Underwood continues to climb the baseball record books.  His 146 hits is tied for fourteenth with current assistant Dahlton Cash (Zach Wall's 185 is tenth).  His 131 runs scored is the new seventh-best mark, moving past Zach Bricknell (sixth is Jackson Jones with 142).  And his 80 walks extends his fifth-best mark, which was previously held by Spencer Thomas with 77. Dom Wyshinski, with 86, is currently in fourth.  Men's Lacrosse Junior faceoff specialist/midfielder Jacob Haas already has possession of the third-most career ground balls across both teams with 178 but he can set another milestone later this season, as he needs just 17 to move past Zac Barrett and into second on the men's side.  Women's Lacrosse Junior Kinsley Purser was only able to tally one goal in Saturday's game but it was her thirty-fifth of the season- extending a season high- and the 76th of her career (Hayley Bartlett's tenth-best mark of 82 is s...

Tidbits from Men's Tennis v. Lander on March 25th

Better late than never on this, even though it was ten days ago. Two men's tennis players recorded milestones against Lander on March 25th despite the 7-0 loss. It was the thirtieth competitive dual match for junior Janis Auslands and the fortieth for classmate Rodrigo Mendoza . 

Saturday Highlights (April 1st)

Softball Despite being swept in both games by North Georgia, sophomore utility player/pitcher Kylie Ferguson was impressive in the opening game, going the distance in the circle in her forty-second pitching appearance (moving past alumnus Dharma Rosbrugh and into eighth all-time). It was her fourth complete game of the season and eleventh of her career, moving into seventh by herself in that category. Rosbrugh's thirteen CGs are the sixth-best mark. Her seven innings on the day gives her 186 for her career, which is 0.2 innings behind current assistant coach Sam Davis in seventh.  Baseball A 13-1 win over Columbus State was the third straight for Young Harris and clinched the Peach Belt series- their fifth straight.  Senior second baseman Ethan Underwood notched his twenty-fifth career double to tie for fifteenth in the program's NCAA era while his seventy-seventh walk means he's tied for fifth.
