Baseball at the D2 Tournament- May 20th Update
The Mountain Lions remain alive! They defeated Belmont Abbey 6-5 in an elimination game and will once again face Wingate in another elimination contest
2 Hits: Ethan Underwood, Noah Fitzgerald and Jackson Jones (these three equaled Young Harris' hits total from game one)
*Jones extends his third-place mark with 224 hits while Fitzerald now has 132 and Underwood has 107
1 Hit: Logan Worley, Mark Castle, Aaron Copeland and Kyle Ayers
*Worley, with 216, is two shy of tying Trey Rogers for fourth; Castle is now two shy of seventy
Underwood, Jones and Copeland added one double apiece (the forty-fifth of Jones' career, extending his hold on fourth)
Jackson Jones clubbed his thirty-fourth career homer, extending his third-best mark
Ethan Underwood added the nineteenth stolen base of his career, tying Trey Rogers for tenth. He's only been caught stealing three times
In his 103rd career appearance for the Mountain Lions and single-season high thirtieth of 2022, McLain Harris toed the rubber as the starting pitcher for the twentieth time in his career and struck out eight in seven innings. He extends his NCAA-era record with 291 and 2/3 innings pitched and his 279 strikeouts is one shy of Michael Livingston's top mark.
One thing that's worth noting is that sixteen of his twenty career wins have come in the last two seasons.
McLain Harris' 103 career appearances means he's tied with basketball alumni Shereese Williams and Jada Williams. He entered the season with 73 appearances to his credit, which means that in this season alone he surpassed Mountain Lion alumni Bryson Robertson, Erika Cross, Macauley King, Val Feeney, Katie-Jo Gentry, Khurram Shazad, Meghan McQuade, Frank Adams, Mikie Rowe, Lewis Hilton, Jeannie Perrucci, Sara Jorgensen, Sarah Reid, Ben Waterhouse, Steve Viterbo, Ladondra Johnson, Peyton Robertson, Nikkie Kovalsky, Breanna Gleeson, Lauren Smith, Kaycee Cash and Keta Robinette.
